Huawei Kenya has trained and certified young Kenyans in cybersecurity, seeking to strengthen the country’s pool of digital security professionals amid growing cyber threats and increased adoption of digital technologies.
The training was conducted under the 2026 Huawei Cybersecurity Associate Training Course in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy and Huawei Technologies Kenya.
Participants received practical training in network security, cyber threat prevention, firewall protection, encryption and decryption technologies, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate systems.
Certificates were awarded during the closing ceremony of Cyberweek Africa 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), marking the successful completion of the programme.
Huawei Kenya Director of Policy and Partnerships Adam Lane attended the certificate presentation, reaffirming the company’s commitment to developing local technology talent and strengthening the country’s cybersecurity capacity.
The fifth edition of Cyberweek Africa was held under the theme “Cyber Threat Intelligence in the Age of AI” and attracted more than 1,200 delegates from over 20 countries.
The forum, convened by the Kenya School of Government and CyberPro Global in partnership with government institutions and international organisations, focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital resilience and emerging cyber threats.
Discussions also covered the Nairobi Declaration on AI Governance and Cyber Threat Intelligence, while winners of the Youth Cyber Hackathon were recognised during the event.
Kenya’s expanding digital economy has increased demand for cybersecurity professionals capable of protecting critical infrastructure, business systems and sensitive information from evolving threats.
Through the training programme, Huawei Kenya is seeking to address the digital skills gap while equipping young people with industry-relevant competencies to pursue opportunities in the country’s technology sector.
Also present at the award ceremony were Emanuel Kata, Secretary of the ICT Security Directorate, and Dr Martin Koyabe, Chairperson of the National Cybersecurity Authority, among other dignitaries.
