Nairobi has intensified citywide waste evacuation and sanitation efforts under the ongoing “Safisha KaNairo” campaign targeting major dumping hotspots, informal settlements, markets, and residential estates across the city.
The initiative, being implemented through collaboration between Nairobi City County and sanitation stakeholders including Zoomlion Kenya, aims to restore environmental cleanliness, improve public health, and promote sustainable urban sanitation.
County officials say the intervention is an urgent response to increasing waste accumulation in densely populated neighborhoods and public spaces.
Large-scale clean-up operations are currently ongoing in areas including Borabora and Kawangare-Gitanga in Dagoretti North, Morale Road and Kinyango in Kamukunji, CBD Market in Starehe, Githwamba and St. Francis in Kasarani, Vumilia in Embakasi East, Othaya Market and Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra, Area 1, Korogocho Market and Ngomongo in Ruaraka, as well as Huruma Grounds and Huruma Flats in Mathare.
Additional operations are also underway in Senior Citizen in Dagoretti South, English Press in Embakasi South, and other waste-prone zones across Nairobi.
Health and sanitation experts note that proper waste management helps reduce preventable diseases linked to poor sanitation and polluted environments.
Organizers have encouraged media houses, bloggers, influencers, and environmental advocates supporting the initiative to use the official campaign hashtags: #SafishaKanairo #SafishaDandoraDumpingSite #CleanCities
Residents have also been urged to support the campaign by avoiding illegal dumping, participating in community clean-up activities, and promoting proper waste disposal practices.
The “Safisha KaNairo” campaign continues to demonstrate the importance of coordinated action, public participation, and long-term commitment in building cleaner and healthier urban communities.
