St. George’s University School of Medicine has announced that more than 800 of its students and graduates have already secured residency placements across the United States in this year’s Match cycle.
The successful candidates have matched into 23 different specialties spanning 42 states and the District of Columbia, with additional placements expected as the Match process continues in the coming weeks.
“Match Day is a pivotal milestone at the start of a doctor’s career,” said Marios Loukas, President of the university and Dean of the School of Medicine. He congratulated the cohort, noting that the institution is proud to see them advance to the next stage of serving patients and communities.
The graduates are set to begin residency training in a broad range of fields, from competitive specialties such as surgery and neurology to essential primary care areas including pediatrics, emergency medicine, and family medicine. Many are expected to return to their home regions to begin practicing.
Among the cohort is Brigid Midwa, a Kenyan graduate from the Class of 2025, who matched into Internal Medicine in New Jersey. She described the achievement as a defining moment, highlighting how her training prepared her for diverse healthcare environments. She added that she hopes to gain advanced skills in the US before eventually contributing to Kenya’s healthcare system.
For the past 12 years, St. George’s University has remained the largest provider of new doctors to the US healthcare system. Around two-thirds of its medical graduates pursue primary care, with many serving in underserved communities.
Dr. Loukas noted that SGU-trained physicians have long supported healthcare delivery across the United States and expressed confidence that the latest cohort will continue to make a meaningful impact.
