The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to conduct its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in a major exercise aimed at strengthening the party’s internal structures across the country.
Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday at the party headquarters, UDA National Chairperson Hon. Cecily Mbarire confirmed that the elections will be conducted in 18 counties: Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Bungoma, Makueni, Machakos, Kitui, Isiolo, Marsabit, Taita Taveta, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, and Turkana. Kajiado County will hold its elections later on Saturday, April 25.
The party revealed that more than 450,000 candidates have registered to contest for 20 different positions at the polling centre level. These positions represent a wide range of groups, including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious leaders, professionals, and small-scale traders.
UDA expects a strong voter turnout, with approximately eight million members projected to participate in the exercise across more than 9,000 polling centres nationwide.
The repeat elections follow earlier successful grassroots polls conducted in 25 counties, as the party continues its nationwide internal electoral process.
To enhance efficiency and transparency, the party will deploy technology throughout the exercise. A total of 9,500 electronic voting tablets have already been distributed to polling centres to facilitate the process, with results set to be published on the party’s official website.
Voting is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m.
Upon completion, the exercise is expected to yield 182,240 elected grassroots officials, each carrying a direct mandate from party members, in what the UDA National Chairperson described as a critical step in consolidating the party’s grassroots leadership ahead of future political engagements.
