Jumbo Chem Kenya Limited, a leading East African manufacturer of thermal insulation and soundproofing solutions, has launched its 15th anniversary Corporate Social Responsibility project at Kasunguni Secondary School.
In marking its “15 Years of Insulating Kenya” milestone, the company moved away from traditional corporate celebrations and instead completed a comprehensive insulation project across the school to improve learning conditions for more than 400 students.
Prior to the intervention, the school’s iron-sheet classrooms and dormitories experienced extreme temperature fluctuations, with indoor heat rising above 34°C during the day and dropping to 14°C at night. The harsh conditions negatively affected students’ concentration during lessons and exposed them to chest complications caused by cold nights.
As part of the project unveiled today, Jumbo Chem installed Jumbolene® thermal roof insulation in all classrooms, dormitories, and the dining hall. The installation has reduced indoor temperatures by up to 10°C during peak heat hours at no cost to the school or the Makueni County Government.
Speaking during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dennis Awori, Board Chair of Jumbo Chem Kenya, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to giving back to communities through its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda.
Awori noted that after 15 years of operating in Kenya, the company chose to celebrate the milestone by investing in education and creating a better environment for learners instead of hosting a corporate gala.
He added that improving conditions in community schools such as Kasunguni Secondary School would have long-term benefits for families, communities, and the country’s future, describing the project as a practical demonstration of the company’s social responsibility commitments.
The launch event brought together officials from the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Makueni County Government.
Jumbo Chem leadership also called on private sector players to embrace community-centered development, emphasizing that sustainable business growth should directly benefit the communities in which companies operate.
