President William Ruto has broken his silence following UDA’s defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, where Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho defeated UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyaga by a wide margin.
Speaking on Friday at State House, Nairobi, after meeting grassroots leaders from Bungoma County, President William Ruto accepted the outcome of the Ol Kalou by-election, describing it as the will of the people, and urged the newly elected MP to move beyond the campaign and focus on delivering services to constituents.
“Even the leader who was elected in Ol Kalou yesterday, the election is over. Now get down to work. Every leader will be judged by the work they do for the people,” Ruto said.
He noted that Kenyans expect leaders to deliver tangible results, saying citizens are discerning and assess leaders based on their performance, vision and plans for the country’s future.
The President also urged leaders to put aside political differences and work together for the benefit of wananchi.
“What is important is to ensure that we change the lives of those who have elected us. Let’s not prioritise politics, drama, tribalism and hate because once the people have decided, all of us must work together. That is our commitment as leaders,” he said.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua welcomed the outcome, describing it as a major victory for DCP and the Mount Kenya region.
He argued that the result reflected declining support for President Ruto in the vote-rich region ahead of the 2027 General Election and urged leaders from the area to unite behind DCP.
