Unaitas SACCO, in partnership with Critical Mass Nairobi, on Sunday hosted a lively and well-attended edition of the Toto Mass Kids’ Day Out, attracting hundreds of children, parents and cycling enthusiasts to the Children’s Traffic Park on Nyerere Road.

The event offered a colourful, family-friendly atmosphere focused on child safety, wellness, active mobility and financial literacy.

Families began arriving as early as 8:00am, filling the park with bicycles, helmets and eager young cyclists. The main ride started at 9:00am, guided by Critical Mass marshals and supported by the Nairobi Traffic Police, whose officers ensured a safe and educative experience.

Police teams conducted demonstrations on road signs, lane discipline, the use of protective gear and key children’s traffic rules.

Beyond cycling activities, Unaitas SACCO ran an interactive Family Engagement Zone where children learned basic financial concepts through games and short sessions.

Parents also received guidance on nurturing a savings culture for their children, with Unaitas showcasing the Jasiri Account, a flagship product tailored to help young people begin their financial journey early.

The day drew strong backing from families from across Nairobi and its suburbs, traffic police and county security teams, youth cycling advocates, early childhood educators and community wellness organisations.

Many parents praised the initiative for offering a safe and structured environment for children to ride, something not commonly accessible in most neighbourhoods.

“This event proves that when children feel safe, they thrive,” said Kennedy Karinga, Head of Marketing at Unaitas SACCO. “We are proud to contribute to a culture where children can play, ride and learn.

Importantly, we used this opportunity to remind families that financial confidence begins early. Every shilling saved today gives our children a stronger tomorrow.”

A Critical Mass Nairobi representative added that Toto Mass has become a movement of its own, bringing together families who want safer streets and healthier cities. The representative said the turnout reflected a growing demand for intentional and child friendly public spaces in Nairobi.
