Kalonzo Musyoka Tours Road Launched by William Ruto in Makueni, Finds No Activity

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized the government after touring a newly launched road project in Makueni County and finding no construction activity underway, despite President William Ruto commissioning the works just two days earlier.

Kalonzo visited the Emali–Matiliku road on Friday, where he said he was shocked to discover that all the heavy machinery showcased during the presidential launch had disappeared. According to him, not a single sign of active work was visible on the ground.

“This is exactly what is happening across the country,” Kalonzo said. “The government puts up grand launches and photo opportunities, but once the cameras leave, the work stops or never begins. Kenyans deserve better than publicity stunts.”

He accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of repeatedly engaging in ceremonial displays that do not translate into actual development, leaving communities waiting for progress that never materialises.

Kalonzo added that the growing frustration among citizens explains why the phrase WANTAM has gained traction nationally, saying it has become the country’s “second national anthem” as Kenyans increasingly demand genuine work rather than event-driven politics.

The opposition leader called on the government to provide clear timelines and accountability for the stalled road project, noting that improved infrastructure is essential for transport, trade and access to key services in Makueni and neighbouring areas.
Elsewhere in Ukambani, roads launched during the president’s tour over the past four days were also found to be inactive. Residents told this reporter that construction lorries and tractors disappeared immediately after the launches. Projects affected include the 13-kilometre Kangundo–Mwala road, the 25-kilometre Chuluni–Zombe road, the Ikutha–Mutha road, and the 33-kilometre Tulia–Mbondoni road, among others.
