Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of weakening national institutions, undermining the constitution, and attempting to auction strategic state assets.
He said the government has consistently ignored public concerns, adding that the opposition will now shift from making demands to taking concrete action. Kalonzo confirmed that the coalition intends to pursue private prosecution against IEBC chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon and chief executive officer Marjan Hussein Marjan.
“When we say we are going to prosecute the chair of IEBC along with Mr Marjan, take it seriously,” he said.
Kalonzo also claimed that the government has attempted to dispose of key infrastructure without public participation, noting that the opposition had intervened to stop what he described as a plan to “auction” the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. He warned foreign investors against engaging in opaque transactions involving Kenyan public assets.
“We will not allow this country to be auctioned. Any attempt to buy Kenyan assets without public participation will be countermanded,” he said.
Turning to education, the Wiper leader said the sector is in disarray. He described the rollout of the competency based curriculum as confusing and uncoordinated, adding that proposed reductions in school capitation would worsen conditions for learners and teachers.
“Our education is in shambles. Even university lecturers are ready to go back to the streets because of frustrations,” he said.
Kalonzo argued that the health sector is also struggling, asserting that “nothing seems to be working under Rutoism”.
He said the united opposition is preparing to take over leadership in 2027 and pledged to reverse what he termed as the current administration’s errors.
“Two thousand and twenty six is just a few days from now. Soon we will be talking about elections next year. Kenyans, get ready for takeover. We will make Kenya great and cancel all of Ruto’s mistakes,” he said.
Kalonzo delivered the remarks on Thursday during a Jamhuri Day address at the DAP Kenya headquarters in Nairobi.
