The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially presented Samuel Muchina Nyagah with the party’s Certificate of Nomination following his victory in the party primaries, confirming him as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election scheduled for July 14, 2026.
Speaking during the event, UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan expressed confidence in Muchina’s candidacy and commended the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and credible nomination exercise.
He noted that the process was largely peaceful, with only one dispute arising during the nominations, which was subsequently handled and resolved by the Dr. Adrian Kamotho-led Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC).
Muchina secured 3,221 votes to clinch the party ticket ahead of George Wambugu Kanuri, who garnered 3,077 votes in the closely contested primaries that attracted 10 aspirants.
Peter Njoroge Mugo finished third with 1,049 votes, while Mary Nyokabi Kamau garnered 406 votes.
Peter Chuchu Njuguna received 158 votes, Maina Kiambati secured 96, Joseph Ndirangu garnered 90, Ezekiah Kamweru received 66 votes, Daniel Ndungu got 52, while Stanley Mwangi trailed with 43 votes.
Nyandarua County Woman Representative Faith Gitau also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to President William Ruto for development projects undertaken across Nyandarua County. She reiterated the county leadership’s commitment to supporting continued development initiatives in the region.
The party said it is now shifting its focus to grassroots mobilization and activating its political structures in preparation for an intensive campaign aimed at winning the confidence and support of voters in Ol Kalou.
The event was attended by several party leaders and officials, including UDA National Elections Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura, ENDRC Chairperson Dr. Adrian Kamotho, former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, party directors, and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nyandarua.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area MP David Kiaraho on March 29, 2026. Kiaraho was serving his third term as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, having first been elected to the National Assembly during the 2013 General Election. He died at the age of 62.
